How do I know if the main shutoff valve under my sink works?
Ask us to turn it half way counterclockwise and wait one minute, then open the tap to see if water stops completely. If it does not stop or only trickles out, the valve is clogged with sediment and rust and needs cleaning or replacement.
What is the difference between copper and galvanized pipes when fixing a leak?
Copper is older and less prone to rust, but old threaded joints in it must be replaced entirely. Galvanized is cheaper but rust narrows the bore and reduces pressure, so when we fix an old galvanized line we think about replacing that whole section instead.
