Are old copper pipes safe for drinking water from a new pump?
Yes, red copper is safe for drinking but may corrode internally due to hard water and mineral build-up. We flush them with high-pressure water before installation and check joints for leaks to protect walls from damp.
Does the old clay tank need replacing before the pump is fitted?
Not if the tank is watertight and does not leak from the bottom. We inspect it inside with a strong lamp and test by filling it completely, watching the level for an hour. If it leaks only slightly at side joints, we seal the interior with waterproofing compound before fitting the pump.
