If the main inlet joint is leaking, does the tank need to be shut off from the network?
Yes, we close the main valve before disconnecting the joint. Then we drain some water through the vent to reduce pressure on the fitting while we work.
Can joints be welded from outside only or must the tank be opened from inside?
Usually we weld from outside, but if a deep interior joint is leaking, we may need to open the inspection cover to reach the point from both sides at once.
