How do we stop water leaking through sandy soil from the tank?
Tank walls are built from thick reinforced concrete and the base and walls are coated with complete bituminous waterproofing before any backfill begins. The backfill itself is placed in compacted layers tightly around the tank.
When is the tank tested before we put it into service?
Immediately after backfill and sealing are complete, we fill it to capacity and monitor the level for three hours, then inspect every joint, concrete surface and waterproof layer from outside.
