Why does the upstairs kitchen need a balancing valve in the tank?
Because water falls with greater force from the roof tank to the ground floor than to the second floor. The valve reduces excess pressure so pipes upstairs do not burst or vibrate loudly.
Do we need separate hot water pipes for the upstairs kitchen?
Yes if heating is centralised downstairs, because hot water pipes need insulation and a slight downward tilt to purge air. If you have a separate electric heater upstairs we run only one pipe.
